“I’m Megan, a machine learning scientist working on AI safety”

About me

I’m a Bay Area native who went to UC Berkeley and graduated with degrees in Data Science and Society & Environment in 2025. Currently, I work at Project VAIL to study and improve agent safety, reliability, and observability. Previously, I interned at Comcast as a Data Analyst and Zoox as a Data Scientist and Machine Learning Engineer. In my free time, you’ll find me working on the Megan Mehta Family Foundation, a nonprofit I founded to advance comfort care for pediatric patients in California.

Where I’ve been

  1. 2026 — Present

    Machine Learning Scientist, Founding Team

    VAIL (Verifiable AI Layer)

Joined the founding team building tools that measure agentic deviancy, behavioral stability, and tool-calling consistency in AI models — the emerging discipline of model informatics.

  2. 2026 — Present

    Founder & CEO

    Megan Mehta Family Foundation

Founded and run every part of a nonprofit — legal, fundraising, press, design, and social media — that has donated more than 17,000 items, about $250,000 in value, to sick and hospitalized children at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford. A 2026 Valentine's Day donation drive covered by NBC Bay Area and four regional print outlets brought the Foundation's story to 85,000+ readers within six months of incorporation.

  3. 2024

Data Science and Machine Learning Intern

    Zoox

Built Bayesian and frequentist models to validate autonomous-vehicle collision-avoidance metrics, presenting the findings to the Director of Autonomy Metrics and 20+ stakeholders. Used Spark and Databricks to train a perception-validation classifier and to model energy usage across five cities. Also built Looker Studio dashboards for the safety and security teams.

  4. 2023

Data Analyst Intern, Business Intelligence & Solutions

    Comcast

Analyzed quota performance across 15+ sales teams, uncovered a platform issue distorting commission structures, and redesigned the incentive model — work projected to add $4.5M in quarterly revenue and presented to Comcast's senior leadership.

  5. 2023 — 2025

    Program Manager

UC Berkeley Center of Entrepreneurship & Technology

Helped run SCET's annual summit for its Student Innovation Fellows, connected student founders with mentors and pre-seed fundraising partners, and organized nine entrepreneurship challenges in alt-meat, renewable energy, and biotech that drew 350+ student fellows, growing the program by half.

  6. 2023

    Machine Learning Engineering Intern

    Climformatics

Researched machine-learning approaches to arctic sea ice albedo enhancement and its downstream effects on European heatwaves and wildfire risk — work later submitted to the American Geophysical Union.

  7. 2022 — 2025

    Technical Product Manager

UC Berkeley College of Computing & Data Science, Data Discovery

Led a team of 35, including 5 graduate students, across the Data Discovery program serving 2,400+ students and 1,000+ client projects, hired and onboarded 10+ colleagues in under a year, secured funding that scaled the program 65%, and ran seven symposiums showcasing more than 1,500 student projects.

What I studied

  1. 2025

    B.A. Data Science

    University of California, Berkeley

Coursework and independent research in machine learning, causal inference, and statistical modeling.

  2. 2025

    B.S. Society & Environment

    University of California, Berkeley

Coursework and research spanning climate policy, environmental science, and social science, published across ten peer-reviewed and student journals.
