Megan is a 2025 UC Berkeley Data Science grad and a machine learning scientist on the founding team at VAIL (Verifiable AI Layer). She tutors students in Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon, Danville and Livermore in person, and anywhere online.

## Subjects

- **Math** — Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Linear Algebra.
- **Data Science Fundamentals** — p-values, hypothesis tests, sampling & bias, honest charts, what makes an analysis convincing. Needs Algebra 1.
- **Machine Learning Fundamentals** — linear regression, lasso & ridge, overfitting, train/test splits, GLMs & logistic regression. Needs Algebra 2. No coding needed to start; Python is added step by step.
- **College Essays (by application)** — brainstorming, personal statement, supplements, line edits.

## Rates

Every session is 60 minutes, one-on-one. The first call is free.

- In-person sessions meet at a local library in Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon, Danville or Livermore.
- A sibling or friend in the same session is $20 per extra student, up to three students.

## Packages

- **Pay as you go** — the hourly rate above, one session at a time.
- **Weekly plan** — $5 off every hour; 1, 2 or up to 5 hours a week, billed monthly; a standing time slot; change or pause with 14 days' notice.
- **Hour bank** — 10 or 20 prepaid hours at the subject's rate, 5% off 10 hours (good for 6 months) or 10% off 20 hours (good for a year); shareable between siblings. Weekly plan and hour bank discounts don't combine.

## College essays (by application)

Megan takes a small number of essay students each fall. Families apply by email with the student's grade, school, colleges and earliest deadline; if it looks like a good fit, there's a free call before starting.

- **Essay review** — $80 for any essay up to 650 words: 2 rounds of written comments and edits, back within 5 days. Extra rounds $35.
- **Personal statement** — $350: 4 one-on-one sessions (brainstorm, outline, revise, polish) and comments on up to 3 drafts.
- **Application essays** — $750: personal statement plus up to 4 short essays (350 words or less), 8 sessions.
- **UC Personal Insight Questions** — all four for $450: 5 sessions and 2 rounds of comments on each.

The student writes every word, with no AI-written text. No admission guarantees.

## How it works

1. Free 30-minute intro call with the parent and student.
2. Pick a plan: single sessions, a weekly plan, an hour bank, or an essay package (by application).
3. Start learning, in person or online. Parents get a quick note after each session and a weekly progress report.

## Policies

- **Schedule:** flexible on weekdays and weekends.
- **Cancelling:** 24 hours' notice to cancel or move a session; later than that, the session is charged.
- **Payment:** card, Venmo or PayPal. Packages are paid upfront; weekly plans are billed at the start of each month.
- **Refunds:** unused hour-bank hours are refunded at the rate paid.
- **In person:** at a local library, or another public place on request.
